NUTRITION

What you feed a dog is extremely important in my opinion. An awful lot of behaviour problems and skin problems quite usually occur as a result of diet.  I am a huge advocate of the BARF (bones and raw food) diet, having swapped my English Mastiff over to this some 3 years ago, the improvement in his overall health, fitness, muscle tone and wellbeing, was beyond belief.  It also saved me a huge amount of money.  I will happily discuss nutritional issues with clients as to write about it all would take forever as it can be quite complex depending on the dog and the current diet and the needs and age of the individual dog.  Something you should give thought to is that dogs are carnivorous and although they do need some carbs and veg this is not a huge amount.  Dogs are derived from wolves; you would not feed a wolf muesli so why give your dog a complete, dry food?  You would also not feed your family the same thing every day so why do it to your dog?  I would emphasise though that you should never go against your veterinary surgeons advice if your dog has health issues relating to kidneys or any other problem, without consulting them first.
